  • Kleinemonde Morning Market on the first Saturday of every month, from 8.30 to 10am. Kleinemonde Community Hall.  Come and enjoy breakfast and  browse the stalls selling wholesome farm chickens and home produce, including quality meats, vegetables, pancakes, frozen meals, quiches,  bread, rusks, gingerbread houses,  home-baked cakes, doggy treats, candles, gifts and more.

  • National Sea Rescue Institute practices every Wednesday at 5pm. To join the NSRI visit the base in person to undergo an evaluation.

  • Richmond House Museum and Music Room. Private non-profit museum est. 2007. The building (1948) is a replica of the Castle, and the displays trace 175 years of owners and alterations.   • Woodlands Market, every Saturday from 8am-12 noon at Woodlands Cottages and Backpackers, just outside Kenton on the R343 Grahamstown Road. Yummy breakfast and treats, fresh produce, arts and crafts. There is no charge for traders of local arts and crafts and produce – an attempt to encourage and support local tourism and businesses. Inter Sub-districts Bowling Tournament at the Kowie Bowling Club. Registration is Friday 12 noon, opening ceremony is 1pm. Bowls starts 1.15pm. Saturday/Sunday bowls start at 9am and 1.30pm, finish at 4.45pm (no tea break). Monday starts 8.30am, finishes 11.45am with prize giving just after 12 noon. Port Elizabeth Districts is back which gives a full field of 22 teams representing seven districts – 88 bowlers and officials from all over the Eastern Cape.

 Saturday September 23

Bathurst 4X4 – 9am – Bathurst Quarry. Hosted by Eastern Cape 4X4 Challenge Club. Vehicle entry R400. Standard Production vehicles welcome. Gate entry R30 per person, children under 10 free. Food stalls and refreshments on sale. Prize giving at 6pm, with entertainment by DJ Charl at Bathurst Museum.

Sunday September 24

Celebrate Heritage Day by bringing family, friends and a picnic to an al fresco concert at Bradshaw’s Mill, Bathurst, featuring the best of local talent. Mill open from 1pm, concert to start at 2pm. Admission free, voluntary donations for funds are welcome.

Rhodes University Symphony Orchestra – Guy Butler Theatre, Settlers Monument at 19:30.  The performance showcases the Rhodes University Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the NMMU orchestra, top young musicians from local schools St. Andrew’s College and Kingswood College, as well as members of the ECPO and local musicians.  Bushman’s River Mouth winter craft market & car boot sale – 8am until 1.30pm – Tennis courts in Bushman’s Village. Variety of bargains available, from hand crafted furniture, jewellery, clothing, antiques, traditional bead work, metalwork, wooden toys, collectables, second hand clothing and much more. Visit the clubhouse where there are always hot and cool drinks available, plus freshly made pancakes, vetkoek with mince, and boerewors rolls. September 30 to October 4

National Agricultural Youth Show Competition at the Bathurst Agricultural Showgrounds. Nearly 500 competitors aged from 8 – 18 years, coming from all provinces and competing in events for: cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, rabbits, pigeons and culinary art. Spectators will be able to view all aspects of the competitions from washing and blow-drying chickens to showing the animals in front of the judges. Opening ceremony on Sunday October 1 at 4pm. There will be food stalls and a village market during the whole event.

Wednesday October 4

St Pauls Anglican Church – St Francis of Assisi day-bring your pets for blessings, Starts at 5pm. Bring all your fluffy, furry, scaly cute and lovable pets on leashes, cages, boxes or bowls. Certificates of Blessings will be issued. A retiring collection and all donations of blankets, towels and animal foodstuffs to be donated to Port Alfred SPCA.

Saturday October 7

Christian Men’s Association (CMA) breakfast – 7am for 7.30am – Port Alfred Celebration Centre (old Victoria Hotel). Guest speaker: Joan Keeling, who is involved in ministry to police and prison warders in Port Elizabeth. There is a suggested donation of R40 to cover the cost of breakfast.

Sunshine Coast Hospice Cancer Awareness Dinner – 6.30 for 7pm – Royal Port Alfred Golf Club. Renowned international speaker, Alison Botha, will be the guest speaker. Alison has become a motivational speaker since her horrendous ordeal in December 1994, when she was abducted, raped, brutally attacked and left for dead in the bushes on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth. Oldenburgia Hiking Club – day trail. Circular route begins and ends at the top of Mountain Drive. Some lovely spring flowers should be out, so come and enjoy. Difficulty: Moderate-hard, 5-6 hours walking time (17km). There are two alternative routes of about 14km and 9km respectively which hikers can choose to do. Cost: R10 per person. St Andrew’s College and The Diocesan School for Girls Balloon Week Art and Design Exhibition. Opening at 4pm, Arthur Cotton Design Centre and Centenary Hall

(St Andrew’s College). Guided walkabouts of the exhibition from 3pm by Grade 11 and 12 art and design pupils. Art and design awards announced and presented at 4.30pm. Artworks will be on sale.

Buco/Kowie Striders’ 27km and 10km races – This prestigious event on the provincial calendar incorporates two races. The 27km race begins at the Big Pineapple in Bathurst and finishes at the Port Alfred Country Club, and a 10km race begins and ends at the Port Alfred Country Club. Buco is this year’s main sponsor.
