THE DA has announced its list of candidates to contest the local government poll on August 3.
DA constituency leader MP Andrew Whitfield said this step followed “a rigorous selection process which has produced the best candidates from the pool of applicants who made themselves available”.
Raymond Schenk is once again the DA’s Ward 10 candidate but, unlike other ward candidates, his name is not repeated on the proportional representation list because the DA has a sure win in Ward 10.
Topping the proportional representation list is Jane Cowley, followed by Khanyisa Daweti, Phil Kani, Genevieve Cannon and Jocelyn Guest. All will be standing for a second term, aside from newcomer Kani and Cannon who will be standing for a third term.
If the DA wins the same number of seats it did in the last election, these six are the only ones who will be on council. The others on the proportional representation list are Angus Schlemmer, Bryce Adriaan, Thunelwa Mbekela, Nompumelelo Sessegnon, Lorraine Samuel and Msindisi Manengane.
Also competing for wards are Cannon (wards one and two), Guest (three), Kani (four), Thunelwa Mbekela (five and eight), Jane Cowley (six), Daweti (seven) and Ndileka Nobebe (nine).
“The DA is confident we will grow in Ndlambe in the 2016 elections,” Whitfield said.
