Appalling condition of our local roads

WORD has it that the government will be introducing an environment levy on tyres, ostensibly to encourage the re-use of tyres.

Of course, cynics amongst us would say that they actually wish to discourage tyres been burnt during the perennial service protests.

Be that as it may, given the appalling condition of our local roads, and the municipality’s proven inability to ensure that the roads are properly maintained, I suggest – nay, I demand – that the municipality pay all local motorists a levy to compensate them for the unnecessary wear and tear on their tyres.

This levy – again I demand – must be deducted from the salaries, allowances and fringe benefits paid to the bureaucrats who are responsible for ensuring that our roads are properly maintained, and who are failing so lamentably in performing the work we overpay them to do.
