I HAD not realised that a “Land Claims Court” had met in Port Alfred recently and granted a local resident a piece of municipal ground.
The resident of the property on the corner of Atherstone and Marlin roads appears to have laid claim to the verges outside his property and demarcated these by laying large white stones as shown in the attached photo.
In addition, the traffic department, “in all its wisdom”, has painted a red “no stopping” line on
Atherstone Road. I fail to see the reason for this as in all the 16 years I have lived in Marlin Road, I have never seen anyone stop or park there especially as it is on a steep hill.
I have contacted the town planning, the traffic and parks departments for an explanation and to date have not heard from anyone. Marlin Road is very narrow and the white stones pose a danger when two vehicles have to pass each other. I wonder whether the resident in question, realises that he or she would be liable for any damage to vehicles caused by the stones if they hit one of them while trying to manoeuvre past an oncoming vehicle?
