Face2Face with …Kyle Badenhorst

Q: Tell us about your job.

A: I am a dance instructor, choreographer and professional performer of Sha-loui Dance School in the following styles of dance: ballroom and Latin American dancing, hip-hop and contemporary. So I get to live my dream and spread dance to others. To be honest and no offence to others, it’s the best job in the world.

Q: What made you get into that line of work?

A: My passion for dance and growing up in a home of dancers, so it was pretty inevitable.

Q: Describe the most memorable experience that you have had in your line of work.

A: To be honest there is a lot but to just name a few… Coming 5th in the open section in mambo at the SA Inter Varsity Ballroom and Latin American dance competition. Coming 3rd in Border for a hip-hop competition. And last year I got to dance on stage with my mother, sister and wife and my son Teague was on stage straight after us.

Q: What do you do to unwind when you are not working?

A: To go for a night out and dance.

Q: What is your motto in life?

A: “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).

Q: What makes you happy?

A: Being active, playing rugby and dancing. Most definitely being around my family and friends.

Q: What makes you angry?

A: Obnoxious people.

Q: What do you think about the youth of South Africa? Do you have any advice for them?

A: I feel they have a challenging life of extreme difficulties with numerous things such as bullying and social media expectations and many more! I do however feel most of the youth in South Africa are spoilt and way too used to getting everything without having to work for it. This is unfortunate as they would not be able to fend for themselves as adults in the future. I think they must believe in themselves and appreciate what they got in life and never take anything for granted… and don’t forget they need to do a lot more dancing.

Q: What do you like most about Port Alfred?

A: The sea and beauty of our quaint little town.

Q: If you could change one thing about Port Alfred…

A: I would like a big recreational studio with the correct flooring, mirrors and ventilation that could be used for all the dance teachers, yoga teachers, pilates, martial arts and fitness classes. Port Alfred lacks this and it would be a brilliant opportunity for positive recreation, especially for our youth.

Q: What is your favourite music of all time?

A: RnB/pop.

Q: Who would you like to take on Amazing Race given the opportunity?

A: My wife Twan as we are both really competitive people and we would have tons of giggles and stories to tell after that.

Q: Three wishes for South Africa…

A: To bring Christianity back into schools. To end the vast corruption and hatred between people in our country. For more job opportunities to be created as our unemployment rate in our country is 26.7% according to countryeconomy.com
