THE New Year has arrived!
We all wish for a happy and a prosperous New Year, but no one knows what the future may hold. Some may sing the following song: “Que Sera Sera, whatever will be will be; the future’s not ours to see, Que Sera Sera.”
Would it not be preferable to place our future in the hands of the Lord? “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5, 6).
It is good to evaluate the successes and failures of the past year. It is necessary then to set new goals for the year that lies ahead of us. Unrealistic goals may only cause disappointment, so set goals that are high, but attainable.
The first thing we should do is to commit our plans to the Lord, for Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” What an incredible promise given by a loving and faithful God!
Most things that are worthwhile only come with commitment and a lot of effort, so strive to make them your own. Learn from past failures, but do not carry the baggage of the past into the future… it only tends to weigh a person down.
Our dreams and aspirations should be “bathed” in prayer, but unforgiveness is one of the greatest hindrances to prayer. “Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13).
If you are required to face stormy weather ahead, you need not face it alone if you have the Lord Jesus Christ in your life.
