“AS for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more” (Psalms 103:15, 16).
Each childbirth is a miraculous event! It is no wonder a songwriter wrote: “Every time I hear a new-born baby cry… then I know why I believe.” Only time will tell of the potential wrapped up in the bundle of joy in his/her mother’s loving arms.
How colourful life will be depends largely on the individual. Circumstances play a role, but we need to live above them, “giving thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). This can only be accomplished by the grace of God and not in our own strength.
The beauty and fragrance of our lives are spread among family, friends and society through our character and personality. According to 1 Peter 3:3, 4, outward adornment is not what is important; instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. This is what really counts and is precious in the eyes of the Lord.
Each of the four seasons of life have their own special beauty. The “wind” spoken of above may blow from every direction during our lifetime, until our flower finally falls to the ground and dies.
At the age of 40, King Jehoram died… “to no one’s regret” (2 Chronicles 21:20). What a tragedy! His life left no lasting fragrance, nor was he missed. No matter what season we may be in, we still can make our mark, for “The memory of the righteous will be a blessing” (Proverbs 10:7).
