Super athlete Alan Robb is the new Kowie Striders club captain

A FIT-looking 63-year-old who has achieved more in his athletics career than any other South African, Alan Robb is now the head honcho at the Kowie Striders, and offered an insight into his past in order to inspire the younger runners at the Port Alfred Country Club at a recent meeting.

Robb has 42 Comrades medals, three of which are for first place and 12 of which are gold. In the past, only the top six runners were awarded gold, not the top 10 as it is today. This record is unlikely to ever be beaten, but how he reached the pinnacle of his chosen sport is a saga worthy of being recorded.

PRESTIGIOUS AWARD: New Kowie Striders club captain Alan Robb is the most experienced and decorated member of the club, having won the Comrades Marathon three times and garnered a total of 12 gold medals, a record that will probably never be broken.
