IT took years in the making, but the opening of the Gavin Deenik bowling green marked a historic moment in bowls history as it is the first green to be opened in the Eastern Province since 1988/1989.
The green was originally proposed 10 years ago, and its dedication on Saturday was the result of a lot of hard work and working within a strict budget.
An emotional and proud Kowie Bowling Club president Peter Ford gave a short speech at the club before bowls began and explained some of the issues around the construction of the green.
