Debra Harris gave an emotional thank you to the students of Stenden University, Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, for their collection and donation of R100 000 to the Port Alfred Soup Kitchen on Thursday afternoon.
“This is an awesome moment and [an] answer to many prayers.
“We would like to thank Stenden for their on-going support over the many years that we have been working together.
“May each and every person who has been involved in this Fighting Hunger project, and either given of their time or financially, be blessed for their generosity.
“This incredible Fighting Hunger project with the students overseas is definitely proof that Stenden and the Port Alfred Soup Kitchen have formed a strong bond. Stenden’s trust in the Soup Kitchen reflects our accountability and transparency, and the knowledge that all funds are used for the community.
“This extremely generous donation has come at the right time for the Soup Kitchen as we are really in dire financial straits, and these funds will enable us to supply many more meals to those in need.
“The Soup Kitchen is looking after the children, the old, the unemployed; and our whole focus is on the critical areas in our society – those who do not have a voice.
“We are seeing a desperation and urgency which flows through and affects each one of us.”
