Don’t be held to ransomware

With information provided by Tiso Blackstar’s IT expert, Bernard Chetty.

BE aware that, in this technology age we are constantly under attack by hackers who wish to steal private information and use it for nefarious purposes. These purposes include identity theft, theft from bank accounts, information on when you are not at home, where you work, where your children go to school and so forth.

At this time new ‘strains’ of the WannaCry ransomware virus are tearing across the globe. This new strain of ransomware – which has already crippled the NHS and brought several companies to a standstill – is now spreading across the world.

More than 200 000 victims in around 150 countries were infected by malicious software known as WannaCry, which began spreading on Friday.

Hackers bait users to click on infected email links, open infected attachments or take advantage of out-dated and vulnerable systems.

Please do not open emails if you do not recognize the sender or it seems suspicious. Never click on links you don’t recognize or download files from people you don’t know or trust.
If you are unsure of an email don’t click on it. Delete it!
