Stolen Peddie SAPS gun found in Grahamstown

A firearm stolen at the Peddie Police station break in earlier this year was recovered at a Grahamstown residence.

GOOD RECOVERY: Grahamstown SAPS acted on information received from informants and recovered a gun stolen in March this year from Peddie SAPS

Members of the Grahamstown Operation Coordinated Committee (OCC) team followed up on information received last Saturday and went to a house in Vukani location Grahamstown.

They found the male suspect inside the house. During a search operation, they found a Lorcin Walter 7.65 with an identifiable serial number and 13 rounds of ammunition.

During further investigations it was established that this firearm was stolen from Peddie police station during a break -in, March 2017.

The suspect, aged 26, was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

He will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrates court early next week.

“The proliferation of illegal firearms is one of our national priorities, and a strong and stable informer network assists in the combating of crime,” said Port Alfred SAPS spokesperson, Mali Govender.
