SEA RESCUE – Wednesday, 09th August. Port Elizabeth

According to Ian Gray, NSRI Port Elizabeth station commander:

At 12h00, Wednesday, 09th August, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated following reports of a diver missing while scuba diving off-shore of Noordhoek.

An extensive search, including a sea, shoreline, air and scuba-dive search, for the missing 70-year-old local man, has been carried out.

Resources deployed in the search operation has included 7 private boats (Found Nemo, Spoogs, Taryn, Sea La Vie, Triple K, Real Deal and Jumper – From Noordhoek ski-boat club), a team of private scuba divers who are qualified rescue divers, the Police Dive Unit, the NSRI Port Elizabeth sea rescue craft Spirit of Toft and Eikos Rescuer IV and the NSRI rescue vehicle, an SA Air Force 15 Squadron, Charlie Flight BK-117 helicopter, EC Government Health EMS and Coastal Water Rescue.

MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre) and TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) and Telkom Maritime Radio Services have also assisted.

Despite the extensive search no sign of the missing man has been found.

A Police Dive Unit is continuing an ongoing search operation.

NSRI Port Alfred was dispatched to assist the wife of the missing man.
The family is being assisted by NSRI and the SA Police Services.

NSRI commend the private divers (who joined Police divers in the scuba-dive search) and the private boats that joined in this search operation.
