IT was a great start at the Kowie Striders 5km fun run on Tuesday evening when over a hundred runners and walkers began the race, sponsored by Adviceworx to raise funds for the Port Alfred Soup Kitchen, which began and ended at the Port Alfred Country Club.

“This is a good turnout for a Tuesday evening,” said Kowie Striders’ chairman, Sticks Stiglingh.

Barry Allen from Adviceworx said he was pleased with the turnout and explained that his company had decided to partner the Port Alfred Soup Kitchen in order to raise funds over the year.

“They do a great job but need funds to continue,” said Allen. “One man from Kleinemonde just donated R2 000. We are very pleased with the generoristy of the people in the area.”

There was no entry fee to compete in the race, just a simple donation sufficed.

Originally scheduled to take place over the festive season, the race was rescheduled due to adverse weather.
