Hard to pick a winner among all the delicious potjies

A walk-through of the various entrants and the mouth-watering dishes they prepared for the potjiekos competition at Route 72 Saloon on Saturday afternoon. The judges from Talk of the Town had a tough time deciding on a winner and even a top three, but after sampling each pot, settled on the Schultz family’s oxtail and dried peaches potjie as the winner (they got R1 000), then Yogan Reddy’s pork and peas curry in second place (R500), and Andy “Pickle” Moore and Charl Waters’ creamy chicken and Brussels sprouts in third place (R300).

Among the other delectable dishes were a seafood potjie with mussels, prawns and hake (Geoff Cowley); a kudu venison knuckle potjie (John Tweedie); a chicken and potato curry (also by Reddy); and two potjies by Saloon owners Louwrens and Jacobie van Rooyen which were not in the competition but still available at R25 a plate – a biltong and pasta potjie and a Thai chicken potjie. Every potjie sold out.
