Icy plunge to welcome the winter solstice

Some photographs of the Port Alfred High School Polar Plunge, held at East Beach this morning to say goodbye to the long nights and welcome back the sun which, from today, will rise earlier in the morning and set later in the evening. That is, until December 21/22 and the summer solstice.

Plungers received a cup of hot coffee (or tea or hot chocolate) and a breakfast roll to ward off the cold after submersing themselves in the frigid waters of the Indian Ocean.
