Local gran proud of her cricketing grandson’s MBE achievement

Kyle Coetzer, 35, has been playing cricket, according to his grandmother, Port Alfred local Valerie Dugmore, “from when he could first hit a ball” and has been playing for his native country Scotland for nearly just as long.

Coetzer’s parents and older siblings emigrated to Scotland in about 1984, and he was born soon after. It was thus not totally unexpected when he was awarded the honour of Member of the Order of the British Empire, the third highest ranking Order of the British Empire award – only a few grades below a knighthood, and awarded through a ceremony carried out by a member of the royal family or even the Queen.
