Local ballroom dancers Olwethu Mfo and Thaba Mbeceni have been chosen as one of the couples who will be competing in the Amathole Regional Championships in Alicedale in July 20.
They will be competing in the novice adult section of the competition, which will be held at the University of Fort Hare.
The couple, who are members of Ben Lumko Dlukulu Dance Sport, have been dancing partners in ballroom dancing since last year. This year they competed in the Buffalo City Championships and took first place, and then they competed in the Second Leg Championships where they came third.
Their coach, Asiza Shode, said they were not really satisfied with the third spot because they were gunning for the first place.
“We are happy but coming third was not what we expected. But we have a chance to prove ourselves in the Amathole Regional Championships, I hope from all the training we are going to do we will improve drastically and come out tops in the competition,” Shode said.
Mfo shared the same sentiments as his coach. He said they will do anything in their power to win the Amathole Regional Championships.
“We don’t know how many couples we will compete up against, because that will depend on the number of entries. As much we are not satisfied with us coming in third place in the last competition, we really are looking forward to the following one as we want to do our best. We are going to make sure that we practice three times every weekend and each and every chance we get,” Mfo said.
