Three die in R72 crash

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a fatal head-on collision between a Honda and a VW Polo claimed three lives near Klipfontein on Friday, September 29.

At around 8.35pm, police were summoned to an accident scene on the R72 where two vehicles were involved.

“Two  occupants from the Honda were declared dead at the scene, while a third one later died in hospital,” Nkohli said. “A case of culpable homicide was opened for further investigation.”

A total of six injured occupants had been transported to hospital.

In a second incident, around the same time, a Toyota Quantum allegedly overturned on the R67 in Bathurst on Friday September 29.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said it was alleged that on Friday September 29, 2023 around 8.30pm, police were summoned to the scene of an accident on the main road coming into the village.

“It is believed the driver of a taxi lost control and veered off the road. The vehicle eventually overturned,” Nkohli said. “It is further said that the occupants sustained minor injuries. A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened for further investigation.”
