Lorraine Maree of St Francis Bay has seen it all, after notching up G2C No 13 at the weekend having entered and raced the popular mountain bike event since the time of its inception in 2013.
“Each year is different we’ve had rain, easterlies, westerlies, lots of cyclists, less cyclists it’s just always different and that’s why I enjoy it every year”.
Maree, who was the first E-bike woman home in the veteran category (2:25.23) over 58km, says there was a feel-good factor about the G2C.
“Everyone was in high spirits especially at the water points and the event was always well organised.”
She said the scenery was amazing and riders had a clear view of a calm ocean from Woest Hill.
“In all the years that I’ve done this race, it’s only the second time that we’ve had such a clear view all the way to the sea,” Maree said. “If you haven’t done a long race, this is the race you try.”
Maree is the Ward 12 councillor for Kouga Municipality. Not only that, but she was recently made Speaker of the Kouga Municipal Council.
How does an extremely busy person find time to train?
“Very early in the morning, and late at night!” she says.
“Cycling clears my mind!”
