A stop-go is in place and traffic is able to move through the accident scene, albeit slowly.
The N2 west of Makhanda has been closed to traffic for the recovery of a truck that overturned earlier today, completely closing off the road. Department of Transport spokesperson Makhaya Komisa said the vehicle, which was travelling from Makhanda towards Gqeberha, overturned after the driver lost control of it.
The incident had completely closed a major economic artery of the province and had severely impacted users, Komisa said.
“The road is completely closed for kind of vehicle to pass to any destination,” Komisa said. Road users were urged to use the R67 through Bathurst and at Port Alfred, join the R72 to Gqeberha via Alexandria, or to kuGompo (East London).
Coming from Gqeberha, at Nanarha interchange join the R72 to Alexandria. Proceed to Port Alfred and either take the R67 through Bathurst to rejoin the N2 just before Makhanda; or proceed on the R72 and turn left to Ngqushwa (Peddie) where you can rejoin the N2 and proceed to Qonce (King WIlliam’s Town).
