Community members gathered in protest outside the Alexandria Magistrate’s Court this morning where a 78-year-old man was due to appear in connection with the rape and assault of an 8 year old child.
South African Police Service spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy said the man was arrested on Sunday, 12 July 2026 and made his first appearance at the Alexandria Magistrate’s court on Monday, 13 July  where the case was remanded to today, 17 July 2026 for a formal bail application.
