THE ORIGINAL: The first Port Alfred School in in the old Anglican Church

AN online debate some weeks ago had us enthralled.

It started by a conversation as to the history of Port Alfred High School. From humble beginnings in the old Anglican Church on the east bank, to the incredible school that we have here now.

A timeline shows the church as a school. Later it was the Alexandria School, in town. Then it moved to the buildings and land where it is now comfortably settled.

Although we have discussed this in previous articles, the addition of the new discovery, in the church, merited a further look at our collective interest in history here. Unfortunately, the church was demolished some years ago and a new church stands in those grounds – St Paul’s.
