Media statement from SAPS: Directorate for priority crime investigation
(HAWKS)
During May 2017 the Serious Organised Crime wing of the Hawks received information from an informer that Van Rooyen senior was selling Crystal Meth (Tik) and Mandrax from his house in Breidbach, King Williams Town.
The Hawks in conjunction with TSS then commenced with an undercover operation to monitor the activities of the alleged suspect. The operation started on June 15 2017 and ended on July 29 2017.
When the Hawks, in conjunction with TRT and the East London dog unit, arrested the two suspects on Saturday, they found at their home in Breidbach just above R61 000 hard cash and just over R34 000 worth of Tik.
Mervin and Alister van Rooyen’s next court appearance will be on August 7 2017 for formal bail application.
