Settlers’ survival story recalled at Clumber

For anyone interested in the 1820 settlers, Saturday at Clumber Church was the place to hear the hopeful but often harrowing tales of the Nottingham Party that arrived at the Cape of Good Hope in 1820 and were finally transported to Clumber to build new lives for themselves.

Courteney Bradfield, himself a sixth-generation descendant of the Bradfields who arrived with the Nottingham Party, gave a very interesting talk on the conditions under which the settlers found themselves in England in the late 17th century.
