Boogie time for Granny Grommets

FESTIVE SPIRIT: Vanessa van Aarde, left, Hilda Vermaak and Tilly von Tonder have some fun together at the KGG’s end-of-year party.

The Kowie Granny Grommets (KGG) were all ripples of delight when they got together for their year-end bash at Guido’s on Friday. To say the atmosphere was electric on the upper floor, would be an understatement. Not quite like being bashed around by an unpredictable ocean while boogie boarding once a week at East Beach – this was a bash of a different kind for the full-of-life over 50-year-oldsThe first floor setting had been transformed into a sea of activity  where orange club colours took pride of place – every single GG had got the memo for sure, “orange T-shirts, no excuses. Glasses were filled with bubbly, to match the spirit of the occasion, and alongside some “sweet” nectar to go with it. KGG chairperson, Jenny Hodgskiss thanked her fellow GGs for their camaraderie and wonderful spirit and boogie boarding get-togethers. “You have brought with you to the KGG a sense of community,” she said. Thanks and appreciation went to NSRI’s Chris Pike – the former PA station 11 commander, who is always available with advice and his presence on the beach. The GGs bought and gathered a sizeable amount of pet food that will be handed over to the SPCA. With all the formalities done, the GGs could continue their cheerful banter about the year that was, in between tucking in to a delicious lunch. Mark Carrels took the pictures:
