Port Alfred K9 tracks housebreaking suspect

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, August 21, members of the Port Alfred SAPS K9 unit attended to a panic alarm in Bathurst.

When the police arrived on scene, the complainant furnished a description of suspects who had broken into the garage of the premises.

The police followed tracks from the scene into the bush and with the assistance of patrol dog Bonzo a suspect aged 32 was arrested. He was found in possession of a brush cutter which was linked to another housebreaking. The value of the brush cutter is R10,000.

“Investigations reveal that the suspect is currently on bail [after being charged] for a murder that took place in July 2018. The case is set for trial in September 2019,” police spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said.

“The suspect now faces a charge of possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in the Port Alfred magistrate’s court later this week.”
