IN the early hours of the morning of December 21 Warrant Officer Neethling, who was off duty, was called out from his rest days to attend to housebreaking incidents in Boknesstrand.
Together with members of the Alexandria Visible Policing, Neethling searched for the suspects who broke into four houses. His patrol dog Bonzo apprehended one of the suspects when he jumped off a house roof and the second suspect was arrested by WO Neethling on the roof.
Stolen goods were recovered in the pockets of both suspects. Police then searched a large bushy area and recovered stolen handbags, cellphones, iPhones, wallets, the hearing aid of a deaf boy, wrist watches, backpacks and an external hard drive scattered in the bush where the suspects fled. The value of the recovered goods is R52 200, police spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said.
Suspects aged 30 and 26 were arrested and detained on four housebreaking cases. One suspect had been released on parole last month for housebreaking in the same area in 2014 after serving just two years of his three year sentence and also has three cases pending, Govender said.
The suspects will appear in the Alexandria Magistrate’s Court soon.
