After 10 faithful years of service as the chairman of the board at Damant Lodge, Bruce Smith has decided to call it quits and hung up his spurs at a farewell presentation at the lodge on Monday morning.
Smith was the well-known face around the lodge and has been responsible for ensuring that all resources are in place to ease life for the residents of the retirement facility.
In her presentation, incoming chairman Heather Howard said that, as chairman, Smith always kept his finger on the pulse.
“As time has gone on he has become more and more personally involved with every aspect of life at Damant Lodge,” she told the audience comprising of most of the residents.
“He has been warning us that 10 years is the absolute maximum that a chairman should stay at the helm. But we chose to pretend not to hear.”
