The 2019 Kenrich Pineapple Cricket Tournament got off to a great start on Saturday with four players scoring centuries, some conclusive wins and some gaining the nail-biting win at the last moment.
Saturday’s highlights included a century by Salem’s Kevin Bennett in his team’s win against Sidbury at the Country Club. At the end of the allotted 50 overs Salem managed 222/3 and Sidbury were all out for 217, Salem winning by 5 runs.
At the PAHS A field Grahamstown Invitational beat Manley Flats by a massive 8 wickets in their match that ended Manley Flats all out for 84 and Grahamstown 89/2. Grahamstown’s Thando Ngcete took 5 for 25.
Station Hill (217/3) beat Culerville (213) by 3 wickets at the Hospital Field with Alvin Marney taking 5 wickets for 24 runs helping his team to victory.
Hilpert saw Manley Flats score a straight 300 (average of 6 runs per over) with Barry Greaves reaching 102 but their opponents, Rainbows, only managing 193 on the day and Manley winning by a huge 107 runs.
Salem scored a whopping 507 in their game against Early Birds that was played at the Air School, Lorimer Pittaway scoring 103 and Ross Pittaway scoring 100. Ross also took 4 wickets for just 35 runs. Corne Labuschagne took 6 wickets for 30 runs in the same match. In reply, Early Birds could only manage a disappointing 65.
Other results included Cuylerville (141) vs Rhodes (142/8) in a close affair at the PAHS B field, Rhodes winning by 2 wickets. At Bushmans PAHS could only manage 81 when they took on Southwell whose Greg Armitage took 4 wickets for just 15 runs and won the match by 4 wickets.
