Firefighters battled the flames at the NMMU nature reserve after the fire started in the 720ha nature reserve at about 8pm.
Drone footage of the aftermath of the fires shows the extent of the damage to the reserve on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was brought under control and classes resumed again at 2pm on Wednesday.
Nobody was hurt during the blaze.
