GrottoBot to save lives

WHAT started as a school project is now a locally produced robot designed to save miners’ lives in times of crisis.

A remarkable feature at this year’s Scifest in Grahamstown was the robotic creation of two Grade 11 pupils from Woodhill College in Pretoria, Charles-Murray Hofmeyr and Andrea Blignaut, which was exhibited in the foyer gallery of the 1820s Settlers Monument last week.

GrottoBot is designed to go into dangerous areas and can provide eyes underground for mining companies, for example.
