HAVE you ever considered what if certain things in history had not occurred, and how it would have affected this world we live in today?
The consequences of yesteryear’s decisions may still be experienced in our own lifetime.
What if Adam and Eve had never sinned in the Garden of Eden? Life on earth would have been heavenly, for there would be no sin, sickness or death. But they did! The earth has become polluted and marred; all of mankind has become sinful with death as the result, for “in Adam all die” (1 Corinthians 15:22).
Mankind became so sinful that “the LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain” (Genesis 6:6). What if He had decided to destroy all of creation by means of a flood? But He did not, for Noah found favour in the eyes of the Lord and eight people, with pairs of every creature, were saved by means of the ark.
What if God had not sent His Son into the world to “give His life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28)? We would be totally lost, “without hope and without God in the world” (Ephesians 2:12). Life would be “meaningless, a chasing after the wind” (Ecclesiastes 2:17). But He did!
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). The celebration of the Easter weekend is a yearly reminder of His death and resurrection.
What if Jesus had not risen from the dead and the tomb was not empty? Our faith in Him as Saviour would be absolutely futile… But He did!
