
THE care and love they give to us is limitless, and today (Sunday) is the day when we celebrate the women who have nurtured our development, taught us right from wrong and made sure we were fed and clothed.
We should be celebrating mothers all year around but, as a minimum, Mother’s Day should be the time when you spoil your mom rotten with some great gift ideas or, perhaps, a great meal.
Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908 at St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, USA. It was proposed by Ann Reeves, an advocate for peace and who was a nurse in the American Civil War and began the process of recognising mothers because, in her own words, she is “the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world”.
