[WATCH] New rest community gather outside Titi Jonas for face to face with council

Date:

Members of the New Rest community have waited 17 years for something be done about their housing issues. One of the men at the forefront of the protest said they are tired of living in shacks and that they want what was promised to them.

The protest started early this morning with aggrieved residents closing the R67, forcing traffic to a halt.

Police were presented and maintained control with station commander Morgan Govender persuading the crowd to channel their protest to local government and led the protesters to the Titi Jonas Hall where the crowd continued to dance and sing. Mayor Phindile Faxi and other members of council, including council speaker Vivian Mapapu, arrived to address the crowd.
