Seven die in Johannesburg fire

Seven people have died in a fire in the Johannesburg CBD as massive flames continue to engulf the area and rescue personnel attempt to put out the blaze.


50 people have been rescued from the 4th and 6th floors of the Cape York building on the corners of Jeppe and Nugget streets.

Emergency services spokesperson Nana Hadebe confirmed that six bodies were found inside the building‚ while another person jumped and died.

Search and rescue operations are currently under way.

The rescued people are receiving treatment for smoke inhalation.
