A PARTNERSHIP between the Royal St Andrews Hotel and The Little Brewery in Port Alfred is raising funds for rhino conservation every time a glass of Highlander Lager is purchased.
Thirsty beer lovers contributed over R6 500 to rhino conservation in the first eight months of the fund raiser, according to Royal St Andrews general manager Wessel Benson.
For every 500ml of Highlander Lager sold in the Highlander Pub, the Little Brewery on the River and the hotel each donate a rand to the Wilderness Foundation of South Africa.
According to Andrew Muir, chief executive officer of the Wilderness Foundation, the benefit of the partnership lies in more than the money contributed to the foundation’s rhino conservation efforts.
“Apart from the funds raised for conservation, with initiatives of this nature the key word is awareness and getting these issues into the public domain,” he said.
Information on the scourge of rhino poaching is available in the pub.
“A very big ‘thank you’ must go to Ian Cook and the Little Brewery for their support of the fund-raising drive,” Benson said.
The current fundraising drive will continue until March next year.
The Royal St Andrews is part of the Mantis Collection.
