Celebrating Woman’s Day, the SAPS in the Grahamstown Cluster conducted a door to door campaign in Tyefu with members of the Community Police Forum.
Pamphlets on rape and domestic violence were distributed. Grahamstown SAPS together with the CPF Youth Forum, Government and non-Government organisations, held a sports event at the Oval Stadium.
The day started with 5km fun run/walk. Later the community was addressed on crimes affecting women and children as well as domestic violence. Other talks included leading healthy living life styles. After the various speakers had delivered their messages, an Aerobics marathon was held for 2 hours.
The Stake holders who participated included Famsa, SAIAB, Department of Health, Makana municipality, DSRAC, Department of Social Development, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Education, Department of Transport and the Makana Aerobics fitness club.
The Management and staff of Committees SAPS started their event at the Apostolic Church hall from 12:00. The event was honoured by two Church ministries from Zion Church of South Africa and from Spiritual Church of God in Southern Africa. Both made presentations on the role of women and how children should be raised against an environment of crime. Following the speakers, two children from an identified indigent family were given gifts of clothing that were donated by the local community.
