House breaker sentenced for theft and assault


On the 10/8 Siyanda Mgweba, aged 24, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for House breaking and theft and 12 months imprisonment for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm in the Port Alfred Magistrate’s Court.

On Saturday 26/12 2016 at approximately 01:50 the complainant returned to his residence from town and realised his front window was broken and as he entered he noticed that the pepetrator was still inside his home. He immediately contacted the police. He noticed that the culprit was carrying his laptop. He started to approach the suspect who attacked him and stabbed him. Shortly thereafter the police arrived and arrested the fleeing suspect a short distance from the scene. 

All the property of the victim was recovered. The Cluster Commander Brigadier Morgan Govender commended the investigating officer for his thorough investigation which assisted in securing the sentence.
