The incident happened when the female pedestrian carrying two backpacks was walking through the vehicle lane. Upon searching her, heroin was found concealed in false compartments with two plastic bags containing an off-white crystal-like substance that reacted positive to tests.

The goods were confiscated and handed over to SAPS for safe-keeping and further investigation. The woman was arrested and taken to Komatipoort Police Station.

“The successful operation was the result of cooperation between SARS and SAPS, who remain committed to protecting our borders and facilitating legitimate trade,” SARS spokesman Sandile Memela said.
