Amanzifestivals.com has all the information you need before the Marina Mile 2018, including registration, times and prizes, according to Port Alfred’s Pierre Coetzer who is organising the race along with Kleinemonde’s Avril Beyleveld.
There will be prizes for the first three swimmers to finish in each age group, 12-18, 19-29 and 30 +.
The prizes are R1200 (1st), R600 (2nd) and R300 (3rd) as well as bronze, silver and gold medals and trophies for the fastest overall male and female swimmers.
Registration costs R80 (12-18 years) or R100 (19-30+) and swimmers must also purchase a swimming cap to help with identifying the winners in each age group, said Coetzer. The yellow (12-18 age group), red (19-29) and white (30+) swimming caps cost R35.
The starting line will be in the water behind the Halyards facing the canal and the route back along the Kowie River will be slightly assisted by the tide, which is why the race is scheduled at that time, said Coetzer.
There will be a prize giving when the last swimmer comes in on or before 11.30am.
It is not known whether last year’s winners Slater Black (16) and Page Black (14) or Joao Felizardo will be participating.
Register at the Halyards from 8am on race day or online at amanzifestivals.com. Click on Marina Mile for the entrance form and email it with proof of payment to firstname.lastname@example.org and caps can be purchased on race day. Pre-race registration closes at 12 noon on Thursday.
