A POLICEMAN from Ekuphumleni, Kenton-on-Sea, has appeared in court on a murder charge after allegedly stabbing his wife to death.
Captain Zamumzi Goniwe, who is based in Hamburg, was arrested after handing himself over at the Kenton police station on Saturday night.
SAPS spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said the incident took place at about 5.30pm that evening, at the house Goniwe shared with his wife Siphokazi Yose in Nazo Street.
“According to a witness the deceased and her husband had an argument. The suspect then [allegedly] stabbed the victim on her upper body. She died at the scene,” Govender said.
“The suspect came at 9.30pm to the Kenton police station to hand him[self] over. A murder case was opened and the docket will be investigated by IPID [Independent Police Investigative Directorate] from East London.”
Before police provided details of the incident as requested, a source told TotT that Yose had been stabbed to death and that Goniwe did not have a police firearm.
Govender confirmed that Yose had been stabbed and that Goniwe did not have a firearm with him.
