Juan Pretorius, NSRI Port Alfred station commander, said:
“At [2.46pm], on Monday, August 13, NSRI Port Alfred duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the five-meter ski-boat E-JAY, with three local male crew onboard, reporting motor mechanical failure and one motor reported to be on fire, in big sea swells two nautical miles off-shore of Port Alfred.
“The sea rescue crafts, Lotto Challenger and Rescue 11 Alpha were launched, accompanied by a boat motor mechanic. On arrival on the scene, the motor was no longer on fire and the three crew who had been fishing were safe.
“Attempts were made to repair the motor but in the four-meter sea swell with the motor only partially repaired and continuing to cut out, we towed the casualty boat to the small boat harbour without incident.
“Once recovered no further assistance was required”.
