It was a bumper Saturday for Kowie United Rugby Club when both their first and second teams won their matches against Lilly Whites from Grahamstown.
Playing at the Station Hill stadium, Kowie United’s first team especially gave their opponents a thrashing, winning 60-14, while their second team won 29-24.
In the first team match against Lilly Whites, Kowie United scored a flood of tries, quickly silencing the visiting team’s fans. Bradley Marais and Devon Ruiters both scored two tries. Other players adding to the score were Daine Ruiters, Fazel Daniels, Arnold Rooi, Jonny Hilpert and Alvin Diedericks – all sharing one try under their names.
Leading the way in converting those tries was Mason Brooks, with four conversions and one penalty. Zenovan Denston also put his name among the stars of the match by scoring two conversions.
Kowie United has a high stakes game to maintain its winning record on Saturday, when it plays against Old Collegians in Grahamstown in the finals of the league.
The president of the club, Liston Hilpert, applauded the teams’ success, and thanked BUCO Port Alfred and Richard Legg for their sponsorship.
