Emergency services trained to use the jaws of life

On Tuesday Ndlambe Fire and Rescue Services from Port Alfred and Kenton-on-Sea/Bushmans spend time at the Port Alfred fire station learning how to use the Jaws of Life to rescue victims of motor vehicle accidents.

This was an initiative of Dewald de Vos of Kowie Towing Services.

“My dad [Dirk de Vos] used to use the Jaws of Life and we felt it was necessary to help the Fire and Rescue Services in our area, who have many new recruits, learn how to use the equipment,” said De Vos.

Led by senior supervisor Benny Mike the team learned the secrets of cutting away and spreading parts of a motor vehicle to move it off the patient/victim.
