The South African Police Service in Addo in conjunction with detectives from the Uitenhage Cluster Operational Command Centre are currently following up on all possible leads following an attack on a 69-year-old man at 01:15 this morning, Thursday, 14 February 2019, at a guesthouse on a farm in the Addo area.
It is alleged that the 69-year-old man and his wife were sleeping when the husband woke up when he heard noises outside. The complainant saw a shadow and opened the sliding door to see who it was. Three unknown males, of which one was carrying a firearm, stormed into the room. It is further alleged that the one suspect assaulted the complainant with a bat and in the process severely injured the complainants right arm. The complainant was then stabbed by the second suspect with a knife. The complainants wife screamed and the suspects ran out of the room and disappeared into the orchards. The owner of the guesthouse took the complainant to a hospital in Port Elizabeth where he was treated for his injuries. No items were stolen during the attack and police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
The South African Police Service request community members to remain vigilant at all times and never to open doors to strangers. No arrests were made as yet and anyone who might be able to assist with any information, may contact Detective Warrant Officer Wouter Verwey on 084 846 2273 or the Crime Stop toll-free number 08600 10111.
