Dambuza Primary School pupil to represent Ndlambe in Gauteng

A young girl from Dambuza Primary School was recently selected to represent the Eastern Province U12 schools athletics team that will travel to Gauteng from March 13 to 16.

PROUD ATHLETE: Dambuza Primary School pupil Esonasipho Fani was recently selected to represent Eastern Province in a schools athletics competition in Gauteng

Esonasipho Fani is the only athlete from Ndlambe who will be representing EP and competing against all nine provinces. Her coach Xolani Bukani said they had worked really hard for this opportunity.

Bukani said they were beyond excited about the news and they can’t wait to go represent EP in Gauteng. He said Esonasipho had been training really hard to make sure she wins.

“When I first got here at the school, Esonasipho wasn’t really into athletics, she was just running as any other kid during athletics season – and then I became her coach. I saw talent and dedication in her I could see that she has what it takes to become an athlete. That is when she started to take the sport seriously,” Bukani said.

“I am also a very proud coach at the moment, because I love working with kids and I love it when I work with them and such results start showing, that also shows that as a coach am doing something right,” he said.

Esonasipho is also over the moon to be going to a province she has never been in before, and she can’t wait for the challenge.

“It’s my first time going to Gauteng, I am so happy about the opportunity and I can’t wait to be there, even though I am a bit nervous. In a nutshell I am happy to be going,” she said

Esonasipho will be travelling by bus with other team members, and Bukani will drive separately.

Her parents are also excited about their daughter, he said. They are waiting for a list of things she is supposed to buy for the trip.
