Pam Golding Port Alfred celebrates milestone

The last 17 years have been quite a tumultuous time in the South African property market, but Pam Golding has weathered the storms it faced along the way and has come out far stronger than before.

THE PROPERTY TEAM: Pam Golding Properties is celebrating 17 years in Port Alfred under the leadership of Isobel Meyer and her husband Andrew. The success of a business is not measured when times are good but rather when the environment changes and times get tough. The property boom between 2004 and 2007 which developers, builders and estate agents enjoyed was followed by a collapse resulting in extreme market changes and economic downturn. Through the Meyers’ forward thinking leadership Pam Golding withstood the challenges and remains one of Port Alfred’s top Industry leaders.

The franchise has recently taken over the Jawitz (formerly Unique) Properties offices, from Susan McLellan in the CBD which, now under the leadership of Andrew Meyer, will look after the Port Alfred rental property market.

“The rental market is showing enormous growth in the Port Alfred area,” commented Andrew. “The purchase of the rental portfolio from Susan will undoubtedly bring about even further growth in the future, having already increased the size of our rental pool monumentally.”

Looking after hundreds of rental properties on behalf of their owners, Pam Golding is proud to be the biggest rental property agent in the area.

Having originally owned a hardware store in the CBD which provided plumbing and other tools and equipment to the construction industry, Andrew and Isobel Meyer were afforded a wide range of industry experience before their venture with Pam Golding Properties began. When they were forced to close their shop down due to the liquidation of one of their biggest builder clients, Isobel sought an opportunity in real estate with then Ingrid Ilgner Estates, where she got to work alongside Susan McLellan as an agent. Already familiar with the industry and property speculation due to her father being one of the three developers of the Royal Alfred Marina, this was the point at which Isobel realised her passion.

“I can remember the very year my mom became a real estate agent,” said her daughter, Lauren, who works alongside her mom today.

“Things changed, and not just because we moved house so many times. There is no doubt that the real estate industry has its challenges, but if it was meant for anyone it was meant for her.”

In 2000, her second year as an agent, Isobel was awarded as the top agent in the Eastern Cape and Garden Route regions for having earned the highest negotiated commission value, the highest total sales value and the highest total number of units sold. She was awarded GoldClub status and qualified as a finalist for the National Agent of the Year.

Isobel purchased the then Pam Golding Properties franchise from Ilgner in 2002 and went on to win the following awards:

  • In 2002-2003 she won the Pam Golding Properties National Franchise office of the year award.
  • In 2003, she won The Best South African Estate Agency Award (awarded by Bentley International to a single estate agency across all estate agent brands in the country – an independent award).
  • In 2004 her agency was a regional winner and national finalist for the award of excellence in the category franchise of the year (awarded by the Independent Franchise Association of South Africa across all national franchise outlets including Wimpy, Vodashop among others).
  • In 2005-2006 she was awarded the National Franchisee of the Year and won the Pam Golding Properties Regional Office of the Year for most units sold.
  • In 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2008, she took home the Pam Golding Properties award for marketing excellence.
  • In 2013, she won the award for most improved office in the Eastern Cape and Garden Route Regions.

Of late her franchise has been awarded the Pam Golding Properties and Payprop award for the highest percentage rental growth year on year for 2017. Her agents have also done exceptionally well over the years, winning numerous individual awards under her leadership.

Now, 17 years later, Pam Golding Port Alfred handles property transactions of all kinds with a highly qualified agent complement.

Pam Golding herself said: “It’s so little about the bricks and mortar and all about the people.”

“At Pam Golding Port Alfred we look forward to a future of building new and long lasting relationships centred around loyalty and excellent customer service. As industry leaders, we look forward to developing our brand, building market share and maintaining existing client relationships. Our industry is about understanding, it is about compassion and it is about having empathy. Above all, it is about putting the needs of others before our own,” said Isobel.

“As an agent myself today,” said Lauren, “I am incredibly proud to be a part of the Pam Golding Properties Port Alfred team under the leadership of my mom. While the industry does have its challenges, it is exceptionally rewarding, working with people and helping them find their home. It all starts with a passion for people; that is what we’re all about.”
