Residents reported that raw sewage was spilling from the pump station in Wharf Street again on Monday August 26.
We asked the municipality what was being done about it, and what could be done to stop it happening.
Municipal spokesman Cecil Mbolekwa responded today: “The Wharf Street pump was fixed last week and the service provider [has] taken standby pump for repairs. Again yesterday, the pump had a mechanical failure while the other pump was not back yet from repairs. Our maintenance team is monitoring the situation and service provider promised to install the standby pump before the end of business today.
“As we speak, the pump is running and is monitored while waiting for the service provider to install standby pump.”
