According to Stephen Slade, NSRI Port Alfred station commander, at 13h07, Thursday, 02 January, NSRI Port Alfred duty crew activated to assist families on a boat upstream reporting motor mechanical failure.

“We launched Rescue 11 Alpha and on arrival on the scene we attempted to repair their motor but failing to repair the motor we towed them downstream to Port Alfred and no further assistance was required.

On Saturday morning, 04 January, an NSRI Port Alfred coxswain was dispatched to Kenton-On-Sea to investigate following concerns raised by a father reporting 4 males, aged 21 to 23, who had gone fishing off-shore of Kenton-On-Sea and the father had not seen them for sometime.

During investigations we found that in misty conditions they had gone further out than expected and they beached at Middle Beach and no assistance was required.

The father is commended for raising his concerns giving us the opportunity for an investigation rather than waiting until it is too late.”
